Purpose Films is a young and innovative Vancouver-based film production company founded in 2003 by Remy Kozak and Nick Bicanic. Fresh from their success in the dotcom sector Remy and Nick joined forces in creating a progressive entertainment company dedicated to the business of compelling, market-driven storytelling.
Purpose Films assembled a broad development slate ranging from low budget independent thrillers to high concept action movies. From that initial slate, several productions were immediately fast tracked.
The first was a feature length documentary film entitled 'Shadow Company' which explores the controversial evolution of the modern day mercenary. Combining exclusive footage of security contractors in Iraq with expert interviews and analysis, the production offers a uniquely entertaining and insightful look into the world of private militaries.
The second was a dramatic feature film called 'The Yearning' – written by up and coming Vancouver talent - writer/actress Dominika Wolski and writer/director Jason Bourque.
It’s a fascinating genre twisting spin on the story of a girl, a band of outlaws, the wild west and a horrific shape shifting creature.

'Shadow Company' (duration 86 minutes, format 16:9 24p digital video) is currently available for sale has already received wide critical acclaim from broadcasters and distributors in the UK and the US who have received screener copies.
'Shadow Company' was written and directed by Nick Bicanic and Jason Bourque, produced by Purpose Films.
While Purpose Films is currently looking for representation for 'Shadow Company' we are most interested in establishing an ongoing relationship with a respected Sales Agent or Producer’s Rep to help us pursue future projects more efficiently.

A co-founder of Purpose Films, Nick Bicanic comes to the Film and Television industry from 8 years of experience in the world of New Media. After graduating University of Cambridge (UK) with a Masters degree in Chemistry, Nick founded and ran Deltabravo Ltd, a Multimedia Design and Strategy company in London. Clients of the company included Arcadia Group Ltd (controller of the majority of UK high street fashion stores), for which DeltaBravo provided all E-commerce strategy, design and programming.
Having steered the company clear through wild changes in the Internet marketplace (and written numerous newspaper articles and books about multimedia design and strategy in the process) Nick was key to successfully selling the company and he started to explore other ways of fusing his two main interests – storytelling and technology.
His business function at Purpose Films is to leverage his experience with Marketing and Technology to help ride the next wave of the Entertainment Industry.
Nick’s contacts and skillset lend themselves to both feature length documentary as well as dramatic pieces. Purpose Films recently finished production on 'Shadow Company – Contract Iraq', a feature length documentary about Private Military Companies co-directed and co-written by Nick.
His first dramatic film - 'Art History' - which he wrote, directed and produced was an award winning short film selected by Panasonic for
their worldwide demo reel. In addition to this Nick
co-produced 'Under The Cover', a dramatic mini-series
made in association with CBC for ZeD.
Nick also likes to ski, fly helicopters and windsurf.
A lot.

A co-founder of Purpose Films, Remy Kozak brings 15 years of marketing, finance and management experience to his projects. He has been developing financing strategies for feature films for the past year and is in contact with Venture Capital, Private Equity and other sources of capital in the US, Canada and abroad.
Remy’s background is a mix of technology, marketing and finance. Originally a software engineer for British Telecom and Motorola, he quickly learned that his ability to translate technology into opportunity was an asset and moved into Marketing, focusing on exploiting opportunities presented by higher bandwidth networks in North America. He created the company Digital Courier and spun it into a standalone entity servicing top North American radio stations, advertising agencies and record labels.
Remy then moved back to Europe – taking a position as Director of Business Planning for Global One Communications (a joint venture between Sprint, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom). He redefined the objectives and strategy of this $1.2 Billion company - eventually heading up the Internet Business divsion. Since leaving Global One in 2000, Remy has worked as a consultant to large telecom companies and venture capitalists, helping them start several successful ventures servicing the media sector.
Remy’s recent move into film was driven by a desire to better understand the process of creating and distributing content. He recognized the potential for independent film to flourish as bandwidth in cities increases
and compression improves. His mission with Purpose is to
capitalize on the economies of digital production and
distribution, to improve the profitability of independent
productions and reduce the traditional risks of film-making.
Remy also recently produced and line-produced the pilot
for 'Daingerfield', a half-hour comedy pilot currently under
consideration by CBS and Showtime.
